Step 1: Materials and Tools
You will need the following.
Materials :
- Clock Machine from Amazon US or Aliexpress
- Round piece of wood ( I had a ready made one . But you can draw a circle on a piece of wood and cut it )
- Piece of Ply Wood ( To make the clock hands ) Aliexpress
- Piece of sand paper from Amazon US or Aliexpress
Tools :
- Screw Driver. ( or a wood chisel ) Aliexpress
- Dark Sun glasses from Amazon US or Aliexpress
- Plywood manual saw from Amazon US or Aliexpress
- Magnifying Glass Lens from Amazon US or Aliexpress
Step 2: Prepare Clock Body
The round piece of wood I had was thick that the clock machine could barely appear from its center hole.
I had to prepare the place to fix the clock machine in it.
I put the clock machine in its position beside the clock body and scratched the wood to mark the size of clock machine.
I made this with the screw driver.
Then I engraved the marked area on the wood with the same screw driver.
It looked like this in the photo.
Then I made the area smooth with sand paper.
Step 3: Solar Wood Burn
I stated by drawing a sketch on paper as a draft. Then I drawn with a pencil on the wooden face of the clock.
This makes wood burn an easier process.
Wear your sun glasses to protect your eyes when you use the solar lens.
Use the lens to create a focal point on the wood tracing the pencil drawing by solar burning the trace.
The clock face finished.
Same to make the clock hands.
Draw the hand on a piece of plywood.
Cut it with plywood saw.
Use the sand paper to make edges smoother.
You can write on the face of the clock hands.
Make holes in the clock hands to match the clock machine.
You may need to use sand paper again on the clock hands back to make them thinner.
You need to do this to confirm that clock hand don't have areas of friction. This could make your clock has delays.
Step 4: Finalize Your Clock
Fix the clock machine on the clock back .
If you have a nut of the same size of the clock machine you can use it.
I didn't have this nut so I made my own nut with a piece of plastic I cut it to a circular shape. Then I pinched it in the center.
Fix the clock machine on the back . Fix the nut on the clock machine nut.
Fix clock hands and make sure they can move freely around the clock.
Now you have the clock.
