Introduction: Solar Power Bank

About: Arduino, Alexa, etc.

Create your very own power bank that can be charged by the sun or via a micro-USB.

A custom made 3D printable housing is available at Thingiverse. For more projects like this see my website http://www.cabuu.com and subscribe to my YouTube channel.

Step 1: Parts and Schematic

I have designed 2 variations, depending on the power output you require. One that outputs up to 30V via a DC Jack and another that outputs 5V via a standard USB jack.

Connect as shown in the relevant schematic diagram (If using the solar panel, solder this last as you will need to feed the cable through the lid).

You will need:

TP4056 Li-Ion Battery Charge Controller: https://www.banggood.com/custlink/KGmmYIsB5L

TP18650 3.7V Li-Ion Battery (2600mAh): https://www.banggood.com/custlink/KGmmYIsB5L

6V 4.5W Mono crystalline Solar Panel: https://www.banggood.com/custlink/KGmmYIsB5L

Either:

5V 1A USB Step Up Converter: https://www.banggood.com/custlink/KGmmYIsB5L

OR:

MT3608 DC Boost Module https://www.banggood.com/custlink/KGmmYIsB5L

Step 2: Assembly

Assemble the components within the 3D printed housing (If using the DC boost converter be sure to adjust to the desired output voltage before installing). Insert two 18650 (3.7V) batteries. Secure the DC jack in place using hot glue, similarly attach the lid and solar panel.

Charge up the battery pack using the micro-usb connection, alternatively place in bright sunlight.

Attach your USB or DC jack powered device and enjoy some free energy!
