Introduction: Spare Key Rock Hideout

Have a habit to forget or lose your home keys? Look no further, because this instructable will show you a quick and easy way to make a rock hideout for your key or other things you want to keep secret. Most people leave spare keys under a doormat or plant pots but everybody knows those popular hiding spaces. This is a great solution as nobody will look under an unsuspecting rock.

Supplies

Tools and materials:

  • Rock ( something like limestone or sandstone is easier to work with)
  • Hammer
  • Epoxy glue
  • Angle grinder
  • Diamong cut off wheel
  • Tin can
  • Sandpaper
  • Garden trowel
  • Safety equipment

Step 1: Prepare the Rock

If you can find a rock with a flat face big enough to fit your tin can, you can skip this step!

Using an angle grinder with a diamond cut-off wheel make parallel rows on one side to flatten it. With a hammer remove excess and shape the face to make it big enough to fit the can.

Step 2: Prepare the Tin Can

To glue it properly, sand the lid of the can to make a stronger bond with glue and stone. Clean the dust from the lid and move on the next step!

Step 3: Glue Up

First, both surfaces need to be dry and clean from dust. Apply epoxy as much as needed and mix per manufacturers' instructions. Place the lid on the rock and put a weight on it. I used a hammer.

Step 4: Hide the Key

When the glue is hard, dig a small hole with a garden trowel big as a tin can. Place the key in the can and close it. Place the rock with a tin can on the hole and you are done!

Now whenever you need the key, you know a rock there you can find one!
