Introduction: Spicy Taquitos

Hello! Welcome to a very simple recipe about how to make spicy taquitos!

Taquitos are a small Mexican food. They are also called rolled tacos, because that's what they look like! This spice variation of the taquito is extremely spicy so be careful! Without further ado, taquito time!

Supplies

  • Corn tortillas (wheat works also)
  • 1/2(ish)lb Beef
  • 1 cup grated cheese (any kind will work)
  • 3 Serrano peppers (other peppers such as Jalapeno work also)
  • 1 tsp taco seasoning

Step 1: Brown the Beef

Get a pan, coat it in oil*, heat the pan up, and then put the beef in. After a little bit of browning the beef, mix in the taco seasoning. Continue stirring beef until completely brown.

*I'll be using canola oil. Other oils will work. Try to distribute the oil evenly across the pan.

Step 2: Chop Peppers

Get a knife and cutting board and dice peppers as shown above.

Note: Be careful not to rub your eyes after cutting them. My eyes hurt :/

Step 3: Making the Filling

Get the beef, diced peppers, and grated cheese and mix them together in a medium bowl with a spoon. Clean up any food that falls out.

Put away that knife and measuring cup.

Note: It's important to keep a clean work space!

Step 4: Cooking the Tortillas

Get a pan and put a small amount of oil in it. Turn the burner to medium low heat. Once the pan is heated up, cook the tortillas one at a time. The tortilla is finished when it looks golden brown on each side. Keep the pan hot because you will need it later.

Note: The tortillas will cook very fast so be quick.

Step 5: Filling and Rolling Up the Tortillas

Get the cooked tortillas and lay them flat. Make a row of filling on each of the tortillas. Then grab one end of the tortilla and wrap it around the filling making a tube shape as shown above.

Tip: Put some shredded cheese on the opposite side of the filling so the tortilla would stay tight when fried.

Step 6: Frying the Taquitos

Grab the wrapped taquito with a pair of tongs. Put the toquito down on the pan with the cheese side down. After a few seconds roll the toquito in the pan cooking it on every side. Keep doing this until all the toquitos are a dark brown color.

Step 7: Enjoy!

Congratulations on finishing your taquitos! Enjoy them! You may change how spicy you want the taquitos by adding more or less peppers, or by changing the pepper used. Taquitos are a very diverse food, so shake things up! I'd recommend eating them with sour cream. Other sides such as salsa and guacamole would work great with them. Thanks for trying the recipe!
