Introduction: Storybook With Magnetic Figures (#13)

About: Grandma Van uses the Instructables website to share little print-and-mail books. Once in a while, she has other fun things to share.

This is a re-telling of an old folk tale. Most of the time, it's a turnip in the story. But since I told this story to my grandson on Easter, I used a rabbit and a carrot!

Step 1: Print.

Print the PDF on letter-sized paper, using lightweight card stock if possible. (The colored pencil illustrations are relatively light and if there is print on the other side, they don't show up as well on plain paper!)

Use these settings: landscape orientation, flip on the short edge, double-sided.

Since there are only five pages, that last page of figures will come out single-sided.

Step 2: Cut.

Cut the first two sheets in half, as shown.

Step 3: Stack.

Stack the pages in order.

Step 4: Fold.

Fold, so that pages eight and nine are in the center.

Step 5: Sew.

Step 6: (Optional) Make Magnets.

Cut out the figures and attach magnetic strip on the back.

Step 7: In the Beginning

I first told this story using a paper carrot, four Calico Critter bunnies, an Easter chicken figure, a beannie duck, and a tiny little wooden rabbit. Cushions on a chair work just fine for the "soil!"

I hope these Grandma Van stories encourage you to share fun times with your little ones.
