Introduction: Straw Flyers
These flying contraptions are great for a rainy day, or when the kids are bored. They can decorate them however they would like, and are easy to make.
Supplies
Required:
- 4 straws(5 1/2")
- 1 sheet of card stock
- Tape/Hot glue
- Scissors/cutting utensil
- Writing utensil
Optional:
- Decorative tape
- Markers/colored pencils
- Paint
Step 1: Prepare Your Card Stock
Measure out and cut the card stock into one 1" x 9 1/2" piece and one 1" x 5" piece using a cutting utensil. Use a ruler to keep your lines straight. Be aware of your surroundings while using sharp objects.
Step 2: Create the Loops
Take the ends of one of the strips of card stock and tape them together to form a loop. Repeat this process for the other strip. You should have one big loop and one small loop.
Step 3: Add the Straws to the Big Loop
Start by taping the straws to the inside of the big loop spacing the 4 straws evenly around the inside (across from each other).
Step 4: Connect the Small Loop
Now take the small loop and tape the straws evenly on the outside of the small loop. Keep the straws as straight as possible and in line with the bottom loop.
Step 5: FLY!!!
Try flying your creation! I suggest giving it a little spin when thrown so you can get a straighter flight. Test the distance when using different materials, I found that the heavier the flyer, the straighter and farther the flight.
Have Fun!
