Introduction: Tablet Stand for Recipes
This is a Valentine's Day gift for my girlfriend who uses her tablet to view recipes while cooking.
Step 1: Cut the Wood
Obtain wood strips and cut to length. I picked up these hardwood strips for free from craigslist.
Step 2: Glue Strips
Glue the strips together and clamp.
Step 3: Plane the Plank
Use a planer to roughly level the surfaces.
Step 4: Sand the Surfaces
Use a belt sander or hand sanding block to fine tune the surfaces.
Step 5: Square the Ends
Saw the ends to a 90 degree angle.
Step 6: Cut a Shelf Piece
Cut a shelf piece from the end of the plank.
Step 7: Hand Sand
Hand sand the plank and shelf with progressively finer sandpaper.
Step 8: Glue the Shelf
Glue the shelf to the plank and clamp.
Step 9: Cut a Stand Support
Cut a stand support and an anchor from the leftover wood.
Step 10: Drill Support Pieces
Drill a hole in the center of the anchor and a corresponding hole in the end of the stand support. Then sand the pieces with progressively finer sandpaper.
Step 11: Glue the Stand
Fasten the stand support to the anchor with a bolt and wingnut. Glue the anchor to the stand so the stand support is center and flush with the bottom of the plank.
Step 12: Apply Polyurethane
Remove the bolt and stand support. Apply a first coat of polyurethane to all the pieces.
Step 13: Sand
Sand lightly with 220-320 grit paper.
Step 14: Apply a Second Coat of Polyurethane
Apply a second coat of polyurethane to the tablet holder.
