Introduction: The Pythagorean Theorem in Everyday Life

How to use the pythagorean theorem in everyday life Example: setting up a terrace along a house precisely without surveyor's tools.

Supplies

  • A decameter (I use metric unit)
  • A line
  • litlles poles

I use excalidraw for diagrams

Step 1:

First, you take a measurement of 3 meters along the house.

Step 2:

From one of the extremities of the measurement you draw an arc of a circle of 4 meters.

Step 3:

From the other end of the measurement of 3 meters, you draw an arc of a circle of 5 meters

Step 4:

thanks to the pythagorean theorem you get a right angle as indicated in the diagram.

Step 5:

Just repeat the last step to get a rectangle

Step 6:

I call this rule: the 3-4-5 rule

But it is valid for example for: 1.5-2-2.5
