Introduction: Valentine's Day Chocolate Covered Oreos

Have you ever looked into a bakery window and saw a treat you knew you HAD to have? Well, I did, but I also went a step further to figure out just how those delicious chocolate covered Oreo was made.

***Hint, hint, it's super easy!

Step 1: Gather Your Materials

This is the most important step because without everything, it will be very hard to start.

What you will need:

* 1 package Oreo's

** 1 package vanilla melting chips (Pink)

** 2 packages vanilla melting chips (Bright White)

** 2 packages light cocoa melting chips

*** piping bags

**** Oreo mold

Decorative topping of your choosing

Two 1 cup microwave safe measuring bowls

Knife

Spoon

Microwave

Freezer

* Oreo flavor does not affect this tutorial. You may also use Double Stuf, Thins, or the original.

** Michael's as well as Joann's both carry melting chips and I try to get them when they are on sale or use a coupon when they are available! Here is a link to the "Bright White", but there are many more colors available in store!

*** The Wilton® Disposable Decorating Bags are the ones I work with. Buy them here: Decorating Bags

**** This is the link to the Oreo mold that I use. Although there are only six cavities, it makes it easier to level the chocolate.

Step 2: Melting the Chocolate

When melting chocolate, always keep and eye on it and only heat it up in 30 second intervals with stirring in between each interval.

To melt the chips, put 1 cup of the "Bright White" chips into one of the 1 cup measuring bowls. Heat on high for 30 seconds and stir. Continue to do this until all chips are melted and stirred in.

Step 3: Starting the Assembly

Now that you have the "Bright White" chips melted, use your spoon to put a dollop of the chocolate into the bottom of each Oreo mold. This dollop should be enough to cover the bottom of the mold.

Once each mold has a dollop, place the Oreo into the mold and push slightly down on the Oreo so that the chocolate begins to come up the sides, but not too far that the Oreo touches the bottom of the mold.

Step 4: Melting More Chips

Once you have all of the Oreo's in place, use your second microwave safe bowl to heat up 1 cup of the light cocoa chips referring back to the instructions in Step 2 for guidance.

Step 5: Adding the Final Layer

Once your light cocoa chips are melted, use your spoon once again to put a dollop of the chocolate onto the top of each Oreo.

It will be easiest to use the back of the spoon to guid the chocolate down the edges of the mold.

Once each mold has chocolate on top, tap the mold lightly on the counter to get rid of any air bubbles.

At this point if you notice one needs more chocolate, add it on.

Step 6: Setting the Chocolate

Once you are satisfied with the amount of chocolate in each, use the flat edge of a knife to scrape off any excess chocolate.

Put in freezer once this step is completed.

Step 7: Adding Your Own Personal Flair

The Oreos should be set in 15 minutes if put into the freezer.

After these fifteen minutes take the mold out of the freezer and turn it over onto a surface such as parchment paper, paper towel, a plate, etc. I prefer parchment paper for decorating purposes.

Once the mold is turned over, most of the Oreos should come out right away, but if they do not feel free to push on the top of the mold of the Oreo that is stuck.

You will now need to repeat steps 2 through 7 until you have the desired amount of Oreos completed.

Once they are out of the mold, you are free to do what you would like.

If you want to follow my steps for the Valentine's Day theme continue on to Step 8.

If you are satisfied with your Oreos or just want to decorate them your own way, skip to Step 9!

Step 8: Valentines Day Decorations

Once you have your Oreos laid out onto the parchment paper it is time to start decorating.

Using the directions in step 2, melt a half cup of the "Pink" melting chips.

Once these chips are fully melted, pour the chocolate into a Wilton® Disposable Decorating Bag, but do not cut the tip of the bag first.

Once all of the chocolate is in the bag, cut an 1/8 to a 1/4 inch off of the tip of the bag.

*** Be sure to be near the Oreos as the chocolate will come out rather fast.

Once you have your bag cut, simply make lines across the Oreos by moving the bag back and forth in a fluid motion adding as many lines as you would like.

To attach any decorations, simply use a small amount of chocolate. These are the decorations that I put on my Oreos: decorations

Step 9: Enjoy!

Now that you have done all of that hard work it is time to eat your delicious and fun creation. Making these Oreos is a simple yet fun and interesting way to make any occasion festive. Above, I have added a photo of the "Winter Wonderland" Oreos that I created. The tutorial for the "Winter Wonderland" Oreo will be out soon :)
