Click on the Video above for detailed instructions and fun!
This week The SuperTenders are commemorating Veteran's Day by having our favorite Marine Corp Vet, Matt Patruno, show you how to make his favorite drink: The Chesty Puller Old Fashioned.
Step 1: Here's What You Need to Make the Chesty Puller Old Fashioned
Here's what Matt uses to make the drink"
1) A tumbler or rocks glass
2) 1 Small orange slice
3) 1 Maraschino cherry
4) Orange Bitters and Angostura Bitters
5) 1 sugar cube or teaspoon of sugar.
6) 2 oz or Makers Mark Whiskey
7) A shaker cup and muddler
8) Several Ice cubes
9) 2 oz hot water
Step 2: Our Favorite Vet's Favorite Drink
Our friend Matt Patruno served in the United States Marine Corp for 6 years, earning the rank of Sergeant. Like most Marines, Matt was taught to revere "Chesty" Puller, the only Marine to win 5 Navy Crosses-- which is where the Chesty Puller Old Fashioned gets its name.
Step 3: Step 1: Make a Simple Syrup
The first thing you need to do is make a small amount of simple syrup. To do so, take 1 packet or sugar or a sugar cube and combine it in a rocks glass with a good splash of hot water. Mix the water and sugar until the sugar is completely dissolved.
Step 4: Step 2: Add and Muddle
Into the rocks glass add to the simple syrup: 1 orange slice, 1 maraschino cherry, 3 or 4 dashes of both regular (Angostura) and Orange Bitters. Muddle the ingredients together for 10 seconds.
Step 5: Step 3: Add the Whiskey
Next, add 2 oz of good whiskey. Makers Mark or Jack Daniels works well. Fill the glass with ice.
Step 6: Step 4: Mix It Up
Now pour the contents of your glass into a shaker cup and shake it all up for a few seconds. Then pour the shaker cup contents back into your rocks glass and get ready to enjoy your Chesty Puller Old Fashioned!
Step 7: Now Enjoy -- and Thank a Vet for His or Her Service!
You've done it! You've made a Marine's favorite drink: The Chesty Puller Old Fashioned! Now don't forget to let your favorite vet know how much you appreciate their service to our country!
