Hi everyone! Today I would like to share a watercolor technique that will allow you to experiment with the lights and shadows of your drawings. We will do it with light colors for the light areas and dark colors for the shadow areas. I think it is a good method to look at the lights and shadows and you will get some very beautiful drawings.

Supplies

  • Watercolors
  • Pencil
  • Brushes
  • Marker
  • Watercolor paper

Step 1:

Sketch a hand silhouette, I looked at my own hand. You can choose another part of the body or another object that has different points of light and shadows

Step 2: Base Color

I started with the base color, I chose blue but maybe yellow it's good too. Look at your reference object and apply the base color in lightest areas.

Step 3: Shadows

I painted the dark areas in garnet-red. As you can see my point of light is on right side.

Step 4: Purple

I added purple in the slightly dark areas.

Step 5: Yellow and Green

I colored the remaining areas in yellow and green.

Step 6: Delineate

Outline the outline of the drawing.

Step 7: Add Details

Add hand lines and wrinkles. And finish!
