Introduction: Whisky Stave Platter/Fruit Bowl

Supplies
Not Much to it really.
5 barrel staves. 3 medium/large and 2 thinner ones for the legs.
A Biscuit Cutter if you have one. (Can be done without)
Sander with 60-80 grit and 200+ grit paper
Angle Grinder with 60 grit flap disc
Wood Glue
Drill with a small pilot bit and one for countersink,
4 screws
Furniture Wax/Briwax
Step 1: Mark Up the First Staves
Get the 3 larger staves and put them together. mark sections where you want to put in the biscuits.
Step 2: Cut the Biscuit Holes
Cut the marked holes for the biscuits.
Step 3: Glue It All Up
Glue the Biscuits and across all joints.
Step 4: Clamp It Up Properly
Clamp it up everywhere you can. This is the most difficult bit because of the curve in the barrel. you can add bits of wood in at the corners/lower edges to even out the clamping effect.
Step 5: Cleaning
This step is probably best done, partially at least, at the start. Get all the burnt inside bits off with the flap disc, and finish up with a large grit sandpaper. I also cleaned up the back with spoke shave plane and sanding as well. because of the curve, there will always be a little bit of clean up to do.
Step 6: Clean Up the Edges
Clean up the detailed edges with a flap disk or sanding paper.
Step 7: Wax It Up
Give the whole thing a good wax feed. I used Briwax Clear and buffed it up after 10 minutes sitting.
Step 8: Waxing the Legs
I decided to wax the legs in dark oak, to give the whole thing a little more contrast.
Step 9: Screw the Legs On
With this step i used 2 screws in each leg. I would suggest flattening off the portion of the leg that will meet the platter. It will give you slightly more surface area to hold the legs on.
Step 10: Finished Result
And finished. Ready for whatever you want to put on it.
