Whistle Harp Instrument

Intro: Whistle Harp Instrument

This designs purpose is to make an instrument that sounds both like a recorder/flute and also a harp at the same time. I hope you like this design. It is a 3D printable instrument, but can also be made from wood, ( or metal, I haven't actually tried to do this yet,). If you make this design out of wood or metal, first look up the thickness of the pipe, and the distance between the holes. (This varies depending on wood type and what scale you want the instrument to play, so I did not include it here) I hope you enjoy making it and I would love to see pictures of this design that someone else has made besides me.

P.S. If you want the stl. files for printing, than look me up on Tinkercad, or put a post saying that you want them.

STEP 1: Step 1; Print the Base

This is pretty self explanatory. Just print the base for the whistle harp off of my stl. file.

STEP 2: Step 2; Clear the Air Hole

Depending on what type of printer you have you may have to clear any extra drips from the air hole and the tube. With that said, most printers manufactured this year (2019) or last year (2018) should not drip, but check just in case.

STEP 3: Step 3; Print the Keys

Download the stl. file and print the keys. Make sure there is a little hole at the end to put the string through.

STEP 4: Finish

Screw all the keys into the main body and attach the strings. Tune the harp by turning the key. In order to get the right notes you can either buy a tuner from a music store, ( ranges from $10 - $200) or you can go the cheap route and just download a tuner onto you computer. (There are also internet based ones as well.)

STEP 5: Final Note

Play your instrument and enjoy it. It also will make a good Christmas or birthday present. I hope you liked this design, Thank you for reading my instrucable.

This is amazing! Could I get the stl files for this, please? My daughter and I will be attending the world premier of the Wingfeather animated series and she wants to dress as Leeli. A whistleharp will be a necessity!
or I suppose you could print it as one piece and that would keep you from having to glue anything.
also, with the right strings, you can indeed play a tune. The "whistle" part itself works just fine... very much like a recorder, although it is a bit out of key... the "harp" part will work, but does not stay in tune very well, or for very long. if all you need is for it to be a prop, i might suggest gluing the keys to the frame. hope this is helpful!
This is the link to obtain the stl files. I will warn you that when I created this project, I had very very little 3d printing experience. However, I do know that this project is indeed printable, although the wings at the base may not print to their full proportions. I will make the project copyable in Tinkercad itself, so that you may take apart the pieces. I am so sorry for the late reply, I am not often very active here anymore. I do hope she enjoys the premier!!!! so exciting! :)
Very nice! This looks like fun. But I don't see where the stl files are.
Here are the stl. files. I hope they are helpful. Thank you for your helpful comment.
and... never mind. Found them. :)
Hey Josiah, I downloaded the STL but I don't see the other pieces, just the whole thing all put together. Could you let me know where to get the other parts?
Is there a sound example available?
No, not currently, but I may be able to post one, in a few days, sorry.
Have you read the Wingfeather Saga? This is one of the instruments that one of the main characters uses. My sister and I have been looking for how to make one but couldn't find it anywhere.Thank you!
Yes, I have read the Wingfeather Saga, it is one of my favorites. I am glad you like this representation of a whistle harp.
I made mine brown, but you can also paint it silver like Madia's or Leli's.
