Introduction: Wood Burned Name Plate
Wood burned name plate to be placed on door or wall, fast and easy to do.
Step 1: Supplies
Scrap wood
wood burning pen
stencil
jigsaw
sander/paper
stain
varnish
picture hanger hardware
I used oak plywood from my scrap pile. When burning a pattern, the harder the wood, the longer it will take for the burn marks to show from the burning pen.
Step 2: Transfer Stencil
Prepare the wood, I used scrap wood, it had o be sanded a little to start.
Transfer your stencil to your wood, either by
1 carbon paper (hard to find now a days),
2 trace or score the wood with knife through the stencil then mark with pencil.
3 If you have a toner printer. Print your stencil then place your stencil on the wood, then use a transferring bit to heat the stencil up, it should transfer your image to the wood. Keep making circular motions while trying to transfer your stencil. Keep in mind it will transfer backwards from that you printed.
Step 3: Wood Burning
Burn your stencil into the wood, take your time, don't rush.
This was my first time, didn't come out too bad.
Step 4: Cut Shape and Sand
Figure out a shape for the name plate, mark it then cut it
.
Sand all rough edges, I used 320 grit for my final sanding
Step 5: Stain and Varnish
I chose a maple stain (only light stain I had in my cabinet) and applied 2 coats of varnish
Pick a location on the back and install hanging hardware
Step 6: Hang Name Plate
Step back and appreciate your work.
