Hello Makers !

You all guys see jewelry with metal,wood,3d printing and others .

In this instructables I make jewelry in combination with Resin and Wood .

I use clear resin with color dye to colorize custom jewelry.

It looks amazing after finishing with sanding and wood polish .

In the process of making this jewelry you learn 3d printing, manual sanding, cutting, Handling resin .

Gather  all Supplies and Let's make some custom jewelry.

Supplies

1> Wood

2> Resin

3> Color

4> Rotary Sanding machine( optional)

5> Polish

6> Sandpaper (400,600,1500 grade)

7> Laptop for mold design(optional)

8> MDF for Mold (if not use 3d printed)

9> 3d printer(optional)

10> Wire and chain

Step 1: Wood Preparation

Take a Log of wood and cut the size of jewelry you need.

As example i need 50x 10x10 mm pieces for earrings ,

50x50x10 mm piece for pendant and 30x30 x 20 mm piece for Ring.

Also you can cut pieces as per your requirement.

Step 2: Cutting Some Material for Resin Pouring

We cut wooden pieces as per size we need but we need to combine resin + wood.

So,we cut some material out of pieces for resin.

We decided to use 3 color resin in our design.

So we make 3 parts of our wood and sand is 5mm for resin pouring.

Also you need to make hole in the wall piece to connect a chain or wire to wear on your neck and ears.

Step 3: Design Mold for Resin Pouring

I use Fusion 360 to design molds for pouring Colored Resin with wooden pieces.

I prefer 1 mm thickness for mold. Mold is not re-usable. We will break mold and take out our object.

You can make molds with MDF pieces but it is not as precise in size sometimes.

Make mold 52x12x12 mm in size .Top side is open for pouring and the internal Dimension is 50x10x10 mm as per my earring wood block.

As per other wood block dimensions you need to make mold design for 3d print.

Step 4: 3D Print Mold [additional Step]

I use Ender-3 to print my mold.

Use blow Setting for 3d print your object.

Layer height: 0.3 mm

Wall thickness: 0.8 mm

Infill = 10%

Material = PLA

Speed = 40mm/sec

Use any color of material because after settling resin we need to break the wall of 3d print mold and take out our part.

Step 5: Mixing Up Resin

I use clear resin and add 3 different colors.

Use resin and hardener in a 3:1 ratio by weight.

I take 3 different Plastic glasses for resin of equal weight. add 1/3rd the weight of harder in all 3 cups.

Then add 3 different colors in Cups and use a glass stirrer to mix Resin and hardener.

  • Always use Gloves while working with Resin.

Step 6: Add Wood and Resin in Mold

After preparation of resin and hardener ,we need to quickly mix the resin mixture.

I place wooden pieces into a mold and add colored resin into gaps.

Do the same for the pendant and ring molds .

Wait for 3 to 10 hrs as per your resin settling time.

Step 7: Breakout Mold

After settling the resin in mold we need to break the mold wall and take out the raw part.

Step 8: Cut Ring As Per Your Finger

Mark your finger dimension on the inner part of the ring part. We need to cut the inner part and prepare for final sanding.

Step 9: Finishing Touch With Sanding.

For the finishing part we need to sand all parts and make all in exact design shape.

For rough sanding I use 400 grade sandpaper and rotary sander for fast sanding.

I use 1500 grade sandpaper for better surface finish.

After sanding we will use wood polish for better finish.

Also Drill hole on earing, pendent for chain attachment.

Step 10: Use Metal Wire & Testing

I use galvanized metal wire for earrings and use chain for Pendant.

After all, the Results are amazing and Jewelry looks Beautiful.
