Wooden Tiger Toy

How to make a wooden tiger pull toy for a child.

Step 1: Step 1: Gather Supplies:

1. Safety Googles

2. Band Saw

3. Belt sander

4. Orbital sander

5. Drill press

6. Axles and 1" wheels

7. Router table

8. Orange stain and paint

9. Wood glue

10. Cardboard scrap

11. 2"x6" scrap wood

Step 2: Step 2: Find a Picture of Your Animal

Find a picture of the animal of your choice that can be recognized from the side.

Step 3: Step 3: Trace Picture Bigger

With a sharpie outline the picture to make it easier to cut, but still a noticeable animal.

Step 4: Step 4: Make a Template

Trace the animal of choice on a piece of cardboard so its easy to cut out.

Step 5: Step 5: Cut Out the Template

Cut out the template on the cardboard with a razor blade or scissors if it is easier.

Step 6: Step 6: Trace Animal on Toy

With the cut out piece of cardboard, put in on a piece of 2"x 6" piece of scrap wood and trace it.

Step 7: Step 7: Cut Out the Traced Toy With a Band Saw

Follow the trace marks with the band saw to cut out the shape.

Step 8: Step 8: Sand With a Orbital Sander and Belt Sander

After done cutting, sand the sides with an orbital sander and the insides with a belt sander.

Step 9: Step 9: Router Edges

With a 1/4" round over bit, router the edges of the toy to make it rounded and smooth.

Step 10: Step 10: Drill Axle Holes

With the drill press drill two holes so you can put axles and wheels on.

Step 11: Step 11: Create a Painting Plan

On a piece of paper, draw how you are going to paint your animal.

Step 12: Step 12: Painting and Staining

Start painting your toy with the design that you like. You can also use stain if you want.

Step 13: Step 13: Final Project
