Yet Another Fume Extractor

I made this fume extractor from an old pc fan and a yogurt cup. (I should have taken more pictures, sorry)

Step 1: Gather Materials

You'll need:

- a 12v pc fan
- a cup or any housing that fits your fan
- active carbon filter
- a switch
- a power source (I used a 12v wall adaptor + the matching input jack)
- a soldering iron
- hot glue

optional:

- a potentiometer (I had a circuit lying around that came with my pc case)
- spray paint

Step 2: Fit the Parts

Tie a rubber band through two of your fan's screw holes. Cut out the bottom of your cup leaving a ledge to hold the carbon filter. Cut slots in the rim of your cup to hold the screw holes of your fan as seen in the picture.
Cut the wires you don't need: we only need black (ground) and red (12v). Blue and yellow are tachometer signal for the pc mainboard and pwm, I believe.
Cut the carbon filter sheet so it fits snugly in your case.
I also had to trim the circuit board of my potentiometer circuit using a dremel to fit into my cup.

Step 3: Assemble

Drill holes in your casing to put the switch, poti and power jack through.
Glue the circuit, switch and jack in place using hot glue.
Put the layers of carbon filter in place.
Put the fan in place and attach the rubber band around the rim of your cup.
Make a test run.
If everything works as expected, you can paint it.
