Introduction: Arduino Piano With Piezoelectric Sensors
Greetings from Fablab Jubail,Saudi arabia. We came in Peace
This instructable will cover how to make an Arduino based piano made by connecting 5 of piezoelectric pressure sensors to the Arduino and a simple sound speaker, each piezo sensor is programmed to send a specified musical tone the speaker is going recognize and turn on after you press the piezoelectric sensor.
Step 1: Components
- 6 Piezoelectric transducer
- Sound speaker
- Breadboard
- Arduino Uno
- Jumpers
- 6 Resistors
Step 2: Connection
- Each Piezo Transducer red wire should be connected through a resistor to GND and black wire is connected to Pin here we used A0, A1, A2, A3, A4, A5
- Sound speaker red wire should be connected to Pin 8 and black to GND
Step 3:
First
you need to open a New Tab and name the file " pitches.h " then insert the tones

After that get back to your sketch and add your code
#include "pitches.h"
int analogpin[6]={A0,A1,A2,A3,A4,A5};
int buzpin=8;
int threshold=20;
void setup()
{
Serial.begin(9600);
pinMode(8,OUTPUT);
}
void loop()
{
if(analogRead(analogpin[0])>threshold)
{
Serial.println("A0");
tone(8, NOTE_B4,1000/4);
}
if (analogRead(analogpin[1])>threshold)
{
Serial.println("A1");
tone(8, NOTE_D4,1000/4);
digitalWrite(8,HIGH);
}
if (analogRead(analogpin[2])>threshold)
{
Serial.println("A2");
tone(8, NOTE_C4,1000/4);
}
if (analogRead(analogpin[3])>threshold)
{
Serial.println("A3");
tone(8, NOTE_G4,1000/4);
}
if (analogRead(analogpin[4])>threshold)
{
Serial.println("A4");
tone(8, NOTE_G3,1000/4);
}
if (analogRead(analogpin[5])>threshold)
{
Serial.println("A5");
tone(8, NOTE_D3,1000/4);
}
}
Step 4: Conclusion
as defined in Wikipedia, A Piezo Sensors or A piezoelectric sensor is a device that uses the piezoelectric
effect, to measure changes in pressure, acceleration, temperature, strain, or force by converting them to an electrical charge. The prefix piezo- is Greek for 'press' or 'squeeze'.
so we are using that to detect when you press each pad and so the Arduino would decide which tone to play , you can play around with this idea to develop a full blown organ or do something else more productive if you are into that kind of stuff!!
Peace out Makers
