- To reduce or prevent print warping, use the free program Meshmixer to split up the blade file into smaller pieces or to fit within the printing bounds of your printer.
Step 2: Post Processing
To make painting easier, it is beneficial to sand down all printed pieces to remove print imperfections such as over extrusion spots. Prime pieces with a plastic bonding primer. After drying, sand the primer. I like to wet sand as it produces less dust, longer life of the sandpaper and allows a smooth surface compared to dry sanding. Apply additional primer as need and re-repeat the sanding process as needed.
Step 3: Painting
The axe according to the concept are is made up of 4 colors: Silver, Brown, Gold, and Blue. To make a faux metal, I started with the silver metallic spray paint & made quick passes at a short distance away from the blade. I repeated the process with the black spray paint. Varying the distance and swapping back and forth between silver and black paint, I was able to make a galvanized metal finish.
The Blue, gold, and brown colors were manually painted on with a paint brush.
Step 4: Assemble
Glue the wooden dowel into the hole at the bottom of the blade. Thread the belly, throats, grip pieces onto the rod. Glue as necessary. Add pummel piece to the end
