Introduction: 'Cantarito' - Perfect September Cocktail - Traditional Mexican Cocktail
September 16th, is the independence day in Mexico (YUP, NOT MAY 5TH). And, what would it be better that mexican food and drink to celebrate?
"Cantarito" o "Un cantarito" is a delicious mexican cocktail served and drunk mainly in Jalisco, Mexico. What makes this cocktail so special is not only the great flavor but the craftsmanship on it: juice from local fruits is fresh and extracted by hand, tequila is made in Jalisco, and the cocktail is served in a handmade barro (local clay) jar.
This instructable will guide you to make a replica of the traditional "Cantarito" using original ingredients and proportions. This post intended to allow people around the globe to replicate the experience of drinking a "cantarito" like if they were in Guadalajara,Jalisco. However, as barro jars are not available in all countries and regular glasses or mugs do not provide the real experience from "cantarito", the best approach is without questions a Mason Jar.
Supplies
For 1 person/jar
- Mason Jar
- 2 oz of Tequila - (it could be white Tequila, but better if you use Tequila Añejo)
- 2 Limes
- 1/2 Orange
- 1/4Grapefruit
- 1 can of Grapefruit soda
- 2 pinches of Sea Salt
- 3 to 5 Ice cubes
Step 1: Extract Juice From Fruits Over the Mason Jar.
With clean bare hands squid all the fruits listed in the ingrediates over the jar.
Step 2: Add Ice to the Juice.
Just to make it refreshing!
Step 3: Add Sea Salt.
This could be to taste, and also you can use other type of salt, like Himalayan, if you want to.
Step 4: Add 2 Oz of Tequila.
You can also use white tequila if you prefer. But I recommend to use Añejo.
Step 5: Fill the Rest of Jar With Grapefruit Soda.
In Mexico we usually use Freska or Squirt, but any grapefruit soda will do.
Step 6: ENJOY IT!
And that's it. Your own Mexican Cantarito Mason Jar!
