Introduction: Homemade Meat Sauce
I just love a homemade meat sauce for a few different reasons. You can flavor it to your liking and you know exactly what goes in it and you can add as much or as little ground beef as you like, so basically you can really play around with this recipe and make it your own and use my recipe as a guide. You can use this meat sauce on top of pasta, rice or even zoodles (if you are trying to stay away from carbs). So if you want to make your own Homemade Meat Sauce, then follow the step by step guide below or watch the video tutorial here:
Step 1: Ingredients and Tools
Ingredients
- 2 Tablespoon Olive Oil
- 1 Onion (diced)
- 2 Cups of Mushrooms (roughly diced)
- 4 cloves of Garlic (minced)
- 1 lb. Ground Beef
- Salt and pepper to taste
- ½ Tablespoon Paprika
- ½ teaspoon Pepper Flakes
- 1 Tablespoon Italian Seasoning
- 1 teaspoon Taco Seasoning
- 1 (32 oz) jar Pasta Sauce
Tools
- Cuisinart Cast Iron Dutch Oven
- Cuisinart Oven Mitts
- Pyrex Mixing Bowl
- Pyrex Bowl 3 set
- Misc. kitchen utensils
Step 2: Saute Onions
In a large sauce pan add in olive oil and allow to warm up on medium heat. Once the oil is hot, add in diced onions and sauté onions until translucent (about 6 mins).
Step 3: Add in Mushrooms and Garlic
Once the onions are translated , add diced mushrooms and minced garlic. Sauté 7-10 min or until the mushrooms are cooked.
Step 4: Add Ground Beef
Add in grounded beef to onion mixture. Use a wooden spoon and break up the meat into smaller pieces. Cook on medium heat until meat is fully cooked (or until there is no more pink showing in the meat).
Step 5: Season
Add in salt, pepper, paprika, pepper flakes, Italian seasoning and taco seasoning all to taste.
Step 6: Stir
Stir the mixture to wake up all the flavorings.
Step 7: Red Sauce
Add in a jar of store bought red sauce and give it a good stir (taste and adjust seasonings if needed).
Step 8: Simmer
Let the meat sauce simmer on low for at least 30 mins, the longer you simmer it the better the flavor gets (you can cover it with a lid so you won't get your stove as messy).
Step 9: Enjoy!
Enjoy on top of pasta or rice!
