These attractive and very fragrant purple and white flowers come from a double bloom purple angel trumpet plant. This perennial scrub can grow up to 6' tall and blooms year round (Blooming slows in winter). The trumpet shaped flower on this plant measures 8" - 10" long. Also known as Devil's Trumpet, Trumpet of death, and Datura, due to the poisonous properties... member of the Nightshade family. This tropical plant native origin is South America. At dusk, the trumpet shaped flowers look amazing. The sweet scent is most fragrant in the evening. It is possible to grow these plants from clippings, too. Datura plants hold their flowers upright. This instructional will be on how to grow this beautiful plant from rough and spiky seed pods in a flower pot.

*Danger: All parts of plant are poisonous if ingested... Keep an eye on your pets!

Step 1: Seeds

In the photo, shows an angel trumpet's seed pod. The seed pod will need to be dried out before being broken open. Once you open the seed pod, You will remove 5-10 seeds for planting. Each seed pod has over 40 seeds.

Getting soil ready for Datura seeds...

Mix together soil, perlite, and ONE of the following:

  1. Bone meal
  2. Alfalfa meal
  3. Rock dust
  4. Cornmeal
  5. Kelp meal
  6. Blood meal
  7. Compost

(Sand and Humus are optional.)

Put most of soil in flower pot and compress/press. Add individual seeds. Add 1/4" additional soil on top and compress/press.

(Seeds can be planted directly into garden... wait to plant until frost is gone and soil has warmed!)

Step 2: After Planting Seeds

The angel trumpet prefers full sun, but will grow partial shade. After planting seeds, keep soil moist. Add a general purpose fertilizer. Also, add every two to three weeks during blooming period. (Tip: Bigger container means bigger plant!) You will want to water daily... Especially during hot, dry weather. Keep flower pot weeded when angel trumpet plant is young.

Step 3: Pruning and Additional Information

Pruning is needed for the angel trumpet. Begin pruning the plant when the main trunk forms the first "Y". Prune older branches to encourage plant to grow more branches.

These seeds/plants cannot be found in stores... Due to the fact the flower can be used as a hallucinant. You will have to get them from a friend or order them online. (Suggestion: Order them from the same country you are in... So, there is no problem with customs) I have them available at my website here: https://www.etsy.com/listing/454437950/purple-doub...
