Introduction: How to Install a Storm Door Closer
Today I show how to install a Door Closer, these can be used on Storm Doors or Screen Doors. I have also included a video from my Youtube channel.
Step 1: Tools Needed
What's Needed:
Hammer
Phillips Screw Driver
Drill
1/16" and 1/8" Drill bits
Nail or Center Punch
Pencil or Pen
Step 2: Where to Put It
The first thing you need to do, is too decide where to install it. These can be install on the Top or the Bottom of the Door. I prefer the Top, I guess because I'm tall.
Step 3: Bracket
Note the arrow on this bracket, it must be installed towards the Storm or Screen Door.
Step 4:
Hold the bracket to the Door casing, make sure it is 1/4" inch away from the front edge, also leave enough room at the Top to install the Pin. Then mark the location of the holes with a pen or pencil
Step 5:
Now take a Nail or Center Punch and make a dent into the wood, so you can drill
Step 6: Drill
Drill with a 1/16" drill bit, this will help prevent the wood from splitting
Step 7: Screw on the Bracket
Now use the 4 longer screws with the Closer, Screw them with your Phillips Screw Driver
Step 8:
Now install the lock mechanism onto the end, as shown in these pictures
Step 9:
Now install the closer using the short pin to the bracket as shown in the pictures
Step 10:
Now with the Door shut, attached the other bracket as shown with the longer Pin.
Note if it's a Glass Door, it will go in the First hole, if it's a Wooden Screen Door, it will go into the second hole
Mark the spots for the 2 screws, use a Center punch or nail, then drill with a 1/8" drill bit.
Note take your time drilling, you only want to drill thru the first layer of the screen door.
DO NOT DRILL ALL THE WAY THRU
Step 11:
Install the 2 Shorter screws into this bracket, install one screw with the pin in the bracket, then take pin out and install the other screw.
Be sure and install towards the center location, this will give you some room for adjustment, if needed
Step 12:
Now with the bracket screwed onto the Storm door, open the door, pulled the cylinder out and lock it in place. Then install the long Pin into the First hole.
Now your Door Closer is installed, Thanks for checking out my Instructable.
