Introduction: How to Put on Cat Nail Caps
These steps will show the proper way to apply nail caps safely on a cat. This process time will depend on how well the cat behaves and how familiar you are with applying cat nail caps. Process time can range from five to fifteen minutes.
Step 1: Materials Needed:
1. Cat
2. Nail Caps
3. Animal Safe Glue
4. Scissors
5. Cat Treats
Step 2: Familiarize With Cat's Claws
Familiarize how to extend the cat's claws to put on the nail caps. Apply gentle pressure to the cat's center paw pad using the owners finger to extend the claws for application of the nail caps. When applying pressure to the paw it will extend and show the full claw. Once familiar move on to the next step.
Step 3: Getting the Glue Ready
Take scissors and cut the top of the animal safe glue at an angle. Cutting the glue top at an angle helps get the glue down into the nail cap.
Step 4: Application Process
Take one nail cap and gently pinch it at the opening to make the nail cap extend open. This makes the opening of the nail cap bigger and easier to insert glue. Keeping the opening of the nail cap gently pinched open, squeeze glue into the nail cap. Fill the nail cap half way full of glue. Set the glue down. Once filled gently release pinching the nail cap.
Step 5: Application Process Continued
Take the cat's paw and extend the cat's claws showing the full claws. Gently slide the nail cap with glue onto the cat's claw. Hold the cat still to ensure the animal safe glue dries on the cat's claw. Be sure to only fill one nail cap at a time with glue and apply one nail cat at a time. If filling all of the nail caps at one time, this will dry the glue in the nail cap and will not be able to stay on the cat's claw. Repeat this process on the rest of the cat's claws one at a time.
Step 6: Reward the Cat
The final step is to reward the cat. The owner can give the cat treats throughout the process or at the very end of the process.
