Introduction: Kringle Mat and Carrick Bend Mat
Here are two easy to tie mats.
Step 1: Kringle Mat
I used 10' of #72 cotton cord for the kringle mat.
Step 2:
Middle the cord.
Step 3:
Bring the right hand end over to the left and back the the right going over three strands.
Step 4:
Bring the right hand end up going under, over, under. Then down going over two.
Step 5:
Bring Left hand end up going over, under, over. Then down going under two and over the right hand end.
Step 6:
Bring left hand end from right to left going under, over, under, over, under, over.
Step 7:
The mat base is complete. Double or triple (or more) by taking each end parallel to the appropriate strand of the mat. When the knot is complete tie the ends to the neighboring strand of the mat with a constrictor knot. Trim the ends
Step 8: Carrick Bend Mat
I used 10' of 5/16" cord to make the mat. This is a flattened 4 bight, 3 lead TH knot.
Step 9:
Middle the cord and bring the right hand end to the left.
Step 10:
Continue going over the two strands of the loop you just made and under the left hand end.
Step 11:
Continue going over, under, over, under.
Step 12:
The mat base is complete. Now take each end and go parallel to the appropriate strand to complete the mat. To finish tie each end to its neighboring strand with a constrictor knot. Trim the ends
