Introduction: MY LEGO RCX ROBOT !

About: like making with cardboard, BURNING LASERS,make LEGO robots.
HELLO, INSTRUCTABLES. SO, THIS IS GOING TO BE MY THIRD PROJECT ON THE SITE. THIS TIME I MADE A "LEGO RCX" FULL FUCTIONABLE ROBOT WITH ALLTHE AVAILABLE SENSORS (INCLUDING LIGHT AND TOUCH ) WHICH I THINK( IN THIS CASE) I HAVE MADE LEGO PROUD. THE ROBOT HAS DIMENSIONS OF 21 CM LENGTH AND A 14CM BREADTH.
ONE OF THE FIRST INTENTIONS I HAD IN MIND WHILE CREATING THIS ROBOT, WAS TO MAKE IT DETECT THE PRESCENCE OF LIGHT OR ANY OBJECT SO THAT EVEN IF IT BONKS (FOR KNOCKING DOWN OBJECTS) ON TO OBJECTS IT WILL TURN AWAY TO THE DIRECTION IT CAME FROM. FOR THE STARTERS, I USED A LEGO RXC ( THE NEW ONE IS NXT) WITH ALL THE COMMON BLOCKS (THE LEGO ONES) AND MOST IMPORTANTLY THE RCX TRANSMITTER WHICH I BOUGHT AS A WHOLE SET FROM EBAY.COM. I HAD TO BUY THE EXTRA FITTINGS SUCH AS THE LIGHT, AND THE TOUCH SENSORS SEPERATELY BECAUSE THEY WERE NOT INCLUDED WITH THE SET.
FUNCTIONS
$. THE ROBOT I MADE CAN DETECT THE PRESCENCE OF LIGHT AND TURN BACK (YOU CAN ONLY DO THIS, IF YOU HAVE THE LIGHT SENSOR), TO ITS ORIGINAL POSITION.
$. I HAVE ALSO PROGRAMMED IT TO TURN AROUND WHEN IT BANGS ON TO SOMETHING ON IT'S PATH.

YOU CAN SEE THE ROBOT AT WORK OVER HERE! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pgIguEVcvcU&feature=youtu.be

........so let's get on to work..

Step 1: THE PLAN (main Body)

So, Once you have all the materials set to make the robot, it's always best to have a plan.
If you are going to start making the robot using a lego mindstorms, the whole plan, including the correct co-ordination will be given in the book-let.
So, those who don't actually use mindstorms (or don't have the booklet). Don't worry, i have also uploaded some of the pages regarding the plan of the RCX.

Look at the picture given above for more details of the robot.

Step 2: MAKING THE BASE (INCLUDING THE WHEELS)

IN THIS STEP I HAVE UPLOADED A PART OF THE BOOK-LET WHICH TELLS YOU HOW TO MAKE THE BASE PORTION OF THE ROBOT.
FOR THE WHEELS I HAVE USED TANKER WHEEL, BECAUSE IT GIVES MUCH GRIP ON THE FLOORING AND DO NOT FOLLOW AN IRREGULAR PATTERN (WHAT, I MEAN IS THAT, IT ROLLS STRAIGHT).
THE TYRES ARE 12cm IN LENGTH AND THEY ARE ALSO FLEXIBLE (THE BREADTH DEPENDS UPON THE SIZE OF THE ROBOT).

STEPS

1. FOR STARTERS YOU WILL NEED LEGO BLOCKS.( SEE THE FIRST PICTURE (1) ). YOU WILL NEED 1PIECE OF 8 CUBE BLOCK, 2 PIECES OF 6 CUBE BOCK AND AGAIN 2PIECES OF SQUARE CUBE BLOCK, WHICH IS THIN.
FIX IT THE WAY AS IT TELLS YOU IN THE PICTURE.
2. (SEE THE SECOND PICTURE) AFTER YOU HAVE FINISHED ARRANGING THE FIRST SET OF BLOCKS. YOU WILL NEED, 2 PIECES OF 4 RECT: BLOCK, 2PIECES OF 2 RECT: BLOCK AND 2 PIECES OF 4 SQUARE: BLOCK. ARRANGE IT IN THE WAY GIVEN IN THE PICTURE.
3. (SEE THE THIRD PICTURE) NOW, YOU WILL NEED 2 PIECES OF 4 CUBE BLOCK, 3 PIECES OF CIRCLE RINGS, AND 3 PIECES OF TRIANGULAR STICKS. ARRANGE THESE PIECES WITH THE MAKING OF STEP 2.
4. (SEE FOURTH PICTURE) YOU WILL NEED: 2 PIECES OF GEARS (WHICH WILL BE ATTACHED TO THE MOTORS), AND 1 PIECE OF RING."....."
5. (SEE FIFTH PICTURE) FOR COMPLETING THIS, YOU WILL NEED: 4 PIECES OF BLOCK JOINTERS, 1 PIECE OF GEAR, AND 2 PIECES OF 4 CUBE BLOCK. " ......................"
6. (SEE SIXTH PICTURE) YOU WILL NEED 1 GEAR, ANOTHER PIECE OF SMALL GEAR (SEE PICTURE), 1 PIECE OF CIRCLED RING, 2 PIECES OF TRIANGLE STICKS, 2 PIECES OF WHEEL HOLDERS AND 1 PIECE OF TANK WHEEL.
7. (SEE SEVENTH PICTURE) NOW KEEP THE WHEEL HOLDERS IN CONTACT WITH THE WHEEL AND ATTACH IT TO THE BASE .NO YOU HAVE COMPLETED THE BASE. ( AS THE ROBOT IS A TWO-WHEELER YOU WILL HAVE TO MAKE ONE MORE OF THE SAME BASE.
8. (SEE EIGHTH PICTURE) NOW ATTACH THE BASE PIECE TO THE MOTORS AND THE TRANSISTOR (RCX).
VOILA!, YOU ARE READY WITH THE BASE, NOW, THE DESIGNING PART IS UP TO YOU IMAGINATIONS. ALSO REMEMBER THAT THE MOTORS GO TO THE BLACK SECTION OF THE RCX, WHILE THE SENSORS (TOUCH AND LIGHT) GO WITH THE GREY SECTION OF THE RCX.

Step 3: MAKING THE EXTERIOR (HEAD & SENSORS)

WHEN YOU HAVE FINISHED FINALIZING THE BODY OF THE ROBOT. THEN, ITS TIME TO COMPLETE THE EXTERIOR.
THE EXTERIOR CAN BE COMPLETED WITH A LOT OF VARIETIES, LIKE, THE HEAD PIECE, A SENSOR- FITTED TAIL. IF YOU HAVE THE BOOK-LET THEN IT WILL SHOW A VARIETY OF EXTERIORS INCLUDING PARROT HEAD, CATTER-PILLAR BASE, DRAGON TONGUE (IT IS INCLUDED WITH THE SET) AND MANY MORE....
BUT, IT'S ALWAYS NICE TO ADD THE:
1. EYES ( MAKE IT LOOK ATTRACTIVE AND HUMAN LIKE)
2. COLOURFUL CONES. (IT'S INCLUDED ALONG WITH THE BLOCKS, IT LOOKS LIKE THIN STRIPS)
3. SENSORS (LIGHT AND TOUCH)
4. AND ANYTHING YOU THINK WILL MAKE IT LOOK BEAUTIFUL ......

I HAVE UPLOADED THE MAKING OF THE HEAD (THIS ONE WAS MADE BY ME,< SPECIAL CRAFTED>)

Step 4: WIRING AND SENSOR FITTINGS

SO ONCE, YOU HAVE COMPLETED THE EXTERIOR AND WHEN YOU ARE HAPPY WITH THE DESIGN, YOU WILL HAVE TO
CONNECT THE MOTORS AND SENSOR TO RCX WITH THE ATTACHMENT WIRES.

THE WIRE HAS A 4 PIECE BLOCK ON EACH SIDE WHICH CONNECTS BETWEEN THE RCX AND THE MOTORS.
THE MOTORS GO TO THE BLACK SIDE OF THE RCX AND THE SENSORS GO TO THE GREY SECTION OF THE RCX.

THE PICTURES AND HOW IT LOOKS ARE GIVEN ABOVE.

...THE NEXT STEP IS THE LAST STEP..

Step 5: FINISH (PROGRAMMING)

YOU HAVE SUCCESFULLY COMPLETED THE ROBOT. NOW ALL YOU NEED TO DO IS PROGRAMME AND GIVE IT A TEST RUN.
WHEN YOU ARE INTO THE PROGRAMMING CHOOSE PILOT 4 BECAUSE THAT'S THE ONE WHICH WORKS RIGHT FOR LIGHT SENSORS.

I HAVE ADDED SOME EXTRA PICTURES FOR MORE DETAILS OF THE STRUCTURE.

BYE.
