Introduction: Painted Planters

This is my first instructable, so, please, bear with me...

I love growing things and bright colors. So when I found these planters on the side of the road, I immediately stopped and asked the gentleman in the front yard if they were getting rid of them and if so could I have them. He was very happy to find someone to take them. When I got them, they were a very dirty off-white. Once they were prepped, I got some bright yellow exterior latex and some foam brushes. If I were to do this again, I would use a small roller to coat them in paint.

Step 1: Gather Your Materials

1. Planters

2. wire brush

3. exterior latex or oil paint in your color choice

4. Foam or regular brushes or a small paint roller

Step 2: Prep Surfaces

I prepped them with a wire brush as the paint was not only dirty but cracked all over from the elements.

Step 3: Apply Paint

I flipped each planter upside down and painted each from the base of the rim to the edges of each petal. I let the first coat dry overnight, then added a second coat.

Once this had cured overnight as well, I flipped both planters upright and painted the inside of the petals to match, again with 2 coats.

Step 4: Fill and Enjoy!

Once they were finally dry, I added potting soil and planted lettuce and beets in them. Now, I have little plants and a big dose of color at my steps!
