3 DIY Heart Chokers | Easy & No Special Tools!

These DIY heart chokers are super easy to make! It takes no time to make these DIY chokers and you will learn a few jewelry life hacks in the process :) Create your own DIY jewelry starting with these cute, easy and inexpensive DIY heart chokers! They take less than 5 minutes to make! I promise! :)

I actually own a fair bit of jewelry making tools, but I assume most of you guys don't have jewelry making stuff (as I guess not everyone wants to make jewelry all the time) and that's why I came up with an easy way of making these DIY necklaces with no professional jewelry making tools. I am using wire cutters, but you can swap it for any wire cutting tool found in your dad's or husband's tool box or even heavy duty scissors to cut the wire and strong nail scissors to bend wire!

Step 1: Watch This Video Tutorial for More Details

Watch this video or read written instructions in the following steps. Of course you'll find more details in the video, but I'm going to try and explain the process as well as I can :)

Step 2: Materials Used

See the list of materials I used for the DIY heart chokers.

DIY chokers - materials:

No 1.

Green and purple colour copper wire (20 gauge non tarnish from Palmers Metals)

Purple thread

Purple cotton floss

Wire cutters(or scissors)

wooden stick to help with the twisting

if you have a suede glove, use it to hold the wire, it will be more comfortable for you :)

clear nail varnish

two beads

scissors

marker pen to shape the heart

nail file

No.2

Same as the no.1, just change the wire and floss for:

silver and pink copper wire (20 gauge non tarnish from Palmers Metals)

pink and white twisted cotton floss

pink thread

Hot glue gun and glue sticks (alternatively you can use some sort of strong fast drying glue, but something that stays flexible)

two white beads

No.3

Red copper wire (18 gauge non tarnish from Palmers Metals)

Red thread

blue cotton floss

blue craft gem secured with all purpose glue(superglue)

2 blue beads

Step 3: Choker No.1 - Wire Work

Start by cutting two pieces of wire each about 8" long. Then twist it at the begging about 5 times and then bend. Insert the cuticle stick where you've finished twisting and keep spinning the stick while holding onto the wire with your thumb and pointer finger. I also used a suede leather glove to hold the wire (for more comfort).

Then take scissors or something with a nice sharp edge to it and bend the twisted wire in the middle to create the pointy bit of the heart. I then shaped the rest of the heart with a marker pen and then my fingers. Let the wire cross in the middle and cut the rest of it off. File with a nail file or sand paper. Then using wire cutters or some sort of strong scissors, grab the end, bend it backwards and create a round loop on each end.

Step 4: Choker No.1 - Finishing

Get a thin thread an tie the two wires together in the place where they cross. I did a double knot, then wrapped it round a few more times and finished with a double knot again. Then I took a clear nail varnish and applied a little bit to the front, back and the sides of the thread and then smoothed all the little bits of fluff with another piece of wire. Let it dry, then add your cotton floss, or ribbon. With this necklace I tied the floss on the top and then done a double knot. I then repeated the process with the nail varnish.

I also tied a single knot to the bottom of each floss, then applied tiny bit of nail varnish to the very end of it (and rolled it in my fingers) then added a small bead and tied another single knot right behind the bead. I then cut the excess floss leaving just a small bit at the end and applied yet another tiny coat of the nail varnish to it. Let it dry and then cut off the rest of the floss, leaving barely any excess floss behind the knot. This can by also done using a glue or hot glue (I was just experimenting :))

Step 5: Choker No.2

This choker is almost identical to the first one, only the strings have been attached differently. I applied a bit of hot glue to the cotton floss, then waited for a couple of seconds and then pressed the two pieces of floss together whilst quickly turning the hard around(spinning it) I then cut off any visible glue and excess floss with scissors, making it nice and neat.

Step 6: Choker No. 3

Again, same principal, but in this case I used a single wire, which was a bit thicker that the other ones and then glued a tiny craft gem to the thread using all purpose glue - which is like a superglue, but it's more flexible when it's dry. Cotton floss was added with hot glue like the second choker.
