Introduction: Lattice for Indoor Plant

About: Hello! My name is Tetiana. One of my hobbies is 3D printing. My work covers various areas of engineering to the decorative. You can see my models on the sites: http://www.thingiverse.com/TanyaAkinora/about

The theme of Japanese Kumiko Shoji technique, which I used in the lamp (https://www.instructables.com/id/Lamp-Kumiko-Shoji-Style-Fusion-360/), found its continuation in the decoration for home flowers.

The beauty and elegance of the Japanese decor allowed me to create a Kumiko Shoji lattice, and as a simple plastic cup turned into a stylized flower pot for my chlorophytum.

I created a lattice of several parts that can be combined with each other. By connecting small squares, you can get a large square, or a rhombus, or a rectangle. And all of them can have a different pattern.

Step 1: You Will Need

  • STL files for 3d printing
  • Matches
  • Nippers
  • 2 plastic cups
  • Rope
  • PVA glue
  • Superglue
  • Small plant
  • Ground for planting

Step 2: Make 3d Printing

I used two STL files in my work. These are stl 1 and stl 2.

Step 3: Make Other Versions

I added other files for a variety of drawings, if you want to do your design. You can order (or printed on the 3D printer) any number of squares and collect them as you wish.

I also added two versions of the lattice that are not going to be assembled, but have a ready-made drawing.

Step 4: Assembling Parts

Each square has two holes on all sides. These holes coincide with each other in all details.

I used matches as guiding rods for assembly of parts and superglue for gluing surfaces.

The photo shows the stages of the assembly.

Step 5: Completing the Assembly

After all the squares are assembled and glued, we give time to dry the glue. Then we bite off the ends of matches with nippers.
We have a ready-made lattice and we will put it aside.

Step 6: Making a Flower Pot

The simplest pot for a small plant is a plastic cup.

Glue PVA plastered the surface of the plastic cup and wind the hemp rope (or what you have) on the surface and the bottom.

We give time to dry the glue.

Step 7: Making the Inner Pot

Take the second plastic cup and a red-hot needle to make holes in the bottom.

This is necessary to remove excess water during irrigation.

Step 8: Planting a Plant

I had a small chlorophytum and needed a new flower pot.

I neatly separated the small plant from the big one and planted it in a plastic cup with holes in the bottom.

At the bottom of the cup you can put a little drainage and water the plant.

Step 9: Connect the Pot and the Lattice

From the very beginning, I decided that my lattice would take the form of a rhombus. This determines the location of the pot attachment.

I took a piece of rope that decorated the pot and tied it to the grate a few turns.

The result you see in the photo.

Then I hung the composition on the wall and inserted the plant into the pot.

So my chlorophytum has a new flower pot, kitchen got a new decoration, and I enjoyed the result.
