Introduction: Peppermint Bark Wax Candle Melts

Transform a couple of white candles and a few crayons into delicious looking wax melts!

Step 1: Gather Materials

Materials:

  • 2 Scented White Candles (3.8 oz. jar candles) or Wax+Fragrance Oil
  • 1 Red Crayon
  • 1 Brown Crayon
  • 1 Black Crayon
  • Square Box/Container 6"x 6"
  • 1 Sheet of Parchment Paper
  • Saucepan + Water
  • Scissors or Knife

Step 2: White Layer

  1. In a saucepan, bring water to a boil. Once it starts boiling, lower the heat to a simmer.
  2. Place a jar candle (3.8 oz.) into the water. Make sure the water level isn't too high; you don't want any water in the jar.
  3. As the candle is melting, prepare a container to pour the wax into. You can use something like the lid from a small box of chocolate (this is what I did) or make your own 6" x 6" container. Take the container and line the inside with a sheet of parchment paper.
  4. Once the wax has melted, pour half of it (1.9 oz.) into the square container.
  5. Wait 10 minutes for the wax to harden a bit.

Step 3: Red Layer

  1. Melt the red crayon and combine it with the remaining 1.9 oz of white wax.
  2. Pour red mixture over the the white layer.
  3. Wait for everything to harden.

Step 4: Peppermint Bits

You should now have a sheet of wax that is red on one side and white on the other. Peel off the parchment paper.

Take a pair of scissors or a knife and cut off small pieces- these will be the peppermint bits.

Step 5: Chocolate Base

  1. Melt another white jar candle (3.8 oz).
  2. In a separate container, melt one brown crayon and the tip of a black crayon.
  3. Mix one half of the white wax (1.9 oz.) into the melted brown and black crayons.
  4. Pour the mixture into a box lined with parchment paper (you can use the same box as before and the same parchment paper- just flip the paper over to the clean side).
  5. Wait 10 minutes for the brown layer to harden a bit.
  6. Take the remaining white wax (1.9 oz.) and pour it over the brown layer.
  7. Sprinkle in the peppermint bits- Don't wait too long! If the wax starts turning white and hardening, the bits won't stick and they'll end up falling off. I waited a little too long, so some of mine ended up falling off.
  8. Wait for it to harden.

Step 6: Cut

You should now have something that looks like a sheet of peppermint bark! To finish, peel away the parchment paper and cut the bark into pieces with a knife or scissors.
