In this project, I'd like to share Solar and Lunar Eclipse Working Model made of PVC pipe, old plastic parts, cardboard, etc. Basically this model demonstrates how solar and lunar eclipse occurred. It also represents different phases of moon. This model may helps student to learn about the solar and lunar eclipse phenomenon. Hope you like this project.

Step 1: Material Required

· 1pcs x Cardboard Sheet (22cm X 22cm)

· 2pcs x PVC Pipe (size = 0.5 inch. and length= 14cm and 10cm)

· 2pcs x PVC Elbow (size = 0.5 inch.)

· 2pcs x A4 Sheet (black and White)

· 1pcs x LED light (Yellow)

· 2pcs x Battery 1.5V (AAA size)

· 1pcs x Battery Holder (AAA size)

· 1pcs x Geared Motor (3VDC, 10RPM)

· 1pcs x On/off Switch.

· 4pcs x Screws.

· 2pcs x LED bulb cover.

· Wires.

· 2pcs x metal strip.

· Old plastic parts, metal strip.

· Green and blue paint.

· Glue, Scissor, black paint etc.

Step 2: Circular Disc

The Circular disc is made up of Cardboard Sheet (22cm x 22cm). The Diameter of the disc is 20cm. The cardboard Sheet is covered with black paper sheet with the help of glue. The Different phases of the moon (total piece= 8, diameter = 3cm each) is prepared with white sheet. Now cut the circles in different phases of moon and paste on the circular disc. The angle between each phase is 45 degrees. You can use the attached printable file of Phases of moon.

Step 3: LED Light Lamp (Act As Sun Model)

The LED light lamp consists of Yellow LED inside a LED bulb cover supported with plastic casing. On the back of plastic casing a battery holder (AAA size) is attached and an on/off switch is provided on the top of plastic casing.

Step 4: Stand/ Base

The Stand/ base of the model is made up of Two metal strip and a PVC pipe (Size = 0.5inch. and length = 14cm) as shown in images. The all PVC parts and Metal strips are painted with black paint. And the Strips are joined with the PVC pipe with the help of two screws.

Step 5: Earth and Moon Model

The Earth model is made with a stressball painted with blue and green colour and the moon model is the LED bulb cover (it’s a cover of old scrap LED Bulb 10W), which is supported with a metal strip (working as a axis) and a screw on other side.

Step 7: Assembling All Parts

Now all the parts are painted and prepared for the assembly process. The geared motor is attached on an elbow with the help of glue. On the motor, the circular disc is attached with the help of screws. Now join the motor elbow on the left side of the stand/ base and the LED light lamp on the right side. Make all necessary connections according to the circuit diagram. All the wires should be inside the PVC pipes and plastic casing.
