Introduction: Canned Turtle

About: We show recycled art sculptures.

In this instructable you will be making a turtle sculpture out of small can and metal wire.

You will need to be careful not to cut yourself. Work slowly and carefully. Don't worry if you do cut yourself because small cuts are expected when working with metal.

You will need:

- Pliers

- Hammer,

- Two nails,

- 1.5 mm/2 mm metal wire about 70 cm (two feet) or arm length (the one I done is with 2 mm but I suggest you do with 1.5 mm instead).

Step 1: Bend the Sharp Bits With Pliers

The top part of can is sharp. It is always better to squash or bend the sharp bits before starting to prevent cuts.

Step 2: Hammer Nails in Can for Tail and Legs

Don't worry if the nails are apart at the top. You just have to make sure the nails are together at the sharp end at the bottom where they touch the can.

After you take out the nails you will see hole. If you do not have back yard you can buy a piece of wood and do it on piece of wood.

Step 3: Use Pliers to Squash Sharp Bits in Holes

The holes will be sharp. Thus its better to squash the holes with pliers.

Step 4: Hammer Nails in Can for Head and Legs

Make more holes for head and front legs of the turtle.

Step 5: Use Pliers to Squash Sharp Bits in Holes

Again use pliers to squash the sharp bits.

Step 6: Pull Metal Wire Through the Hole

Start pulling metal wire through the hole. I started with the front leg but you can start with the tail. It does not really matter.

Step 7: Pull the Metal Wire Back Through the Hole

Use pliers to pull the wire inside the can.

Step 8: Squash the Metal Wire the Form One Leg

Step 9: Bend the Wire to Make a Foot

Step 10: Pull the Metal Wire Through the Second Hole

Step 11: Pull the Metal Wire Back Inside the Can and Then Form the Head

I recommend that you do not form the head before pulling the wire back inside the can. Use pliers to form the head.

Step 12: Pull the Metal Wire Through the Third Hole

Step 13: Pull the Metal Wire Back Inside the Can

Step 14: Squash the Metal Wire to Form the Second Leg

Step 15: Bend the Metal Wire to Form the Foot

Step 16: Pull the Metal Wire Through Fourth Hole

Use pliers for this step.

Step 17: Pull the Metal Wire Back Inside the Can

Step 18: Pull the Metal Wire Through the Fifth Hole to Make the Tail

I skipped a few steps because it is now obvious how you make the feet and legs of the turtle.

Step 19: Pull the Metal Wire Through the Sixth Hole

Step 20: Squash With Pliers to Make Fourth Leg and Foot

Step 21: Pull Through Fifth Hole and Twist Metal Wire to Finish the Tail As Shown in Photo

Step 22: Cut Off the Metal Wire With Pliers to Finish

You are now done.
