Introduction: Miniature Book Made From Leather by Dylan

This miniature book is a fun and simple project that takes about 30mins to make.
Great for creating a tiny library. You could also make a miniature bookshelf to hold it.

Supplies

To make this book you will need:
Craft glue
Pieces of white paper (cut to 44mm x 30mm) the number of pieces is optional depending on how thick you want your book. I used 40.
Thin scrap leather (150mm x 75mm), it needs to be nice and thin so the book isn’t too bulky, the leather I used was 1mm thick.
Thin card for the cover.
Protractor.
Mechanical Pencil.
Metal ruler.
Small clamps.
Scalpel
Tweezers
Origami folding tool.

Step 1:

Cut a strip of card 34 mm tall And 100 mm wide

Step 2: Making the Book Pages and Card Cover

Fold each of your pieces of white paper in half. These will form the pages of the book.
Stack all the folded pages - make sure all the folds are on the same side.
Measure how thick the stack of pages are as this dimension will determine how wide the spine of your book is. Mine was 8mm.
Take your piece of card and cut it to size. In my case this was 34mm high (30mm high page plus 2mm top and bottom) and 56mm wide (2 x 22mm wide pages plus 8mm spine width plus 2mm each end).
Mark the spine position on the card and using the origami tool fold both sides.

Step 3: Adding the Leather to the Card Cover

Cut the leather to size. Take your card cover size and add 5mm to all four sides.
Cut out the leather rectangle using the metal ruler and scalpel.
Spread glue on the outside of the card cover and push it firmly onto the leather. Making sure all sides are even and the card is centered. Hold in place until glue is dry using the mini clamps.

Step 4:

Cut leather as per the photo.
Spread glue on the inside of the leather flaps and then fold into place and clamp until dry.

Step 5: Finishing the Leather Cover

Measure the area of the inside face of the card cover not covered by the leather and cut two rectangles of card to match.
Glue these to the inside of the cover. This allows the pages to glue inside the cover smoothly without there being bumps where the leather starts and stops.
Cut two pieces of white paper 1mm smaller then each inside face of the cover. Glue each one in place. Allow to dry.

Step 6: Gluing in the Pages.

Apply glue to the inside of the cover (only to the paper and along the inside of the spine) and then holding the stack of folded pages push them firmly into the spine first and then glue the first page front and back.

Enjoy your miniature book.
