Introduction: Miniature Tree by Dylan Age 11

Use these steps to create a miniature tree made from wire. I have also shown how to make a miniature tyre swing and a treehouse. I choose to showcase the tyre swing as I preferred it’s simplicity and elegance.

Supplies

For the wire tree:
Wire
Drill
2 clamps
Masking tape
Pliers
Ruler

For the treehouse and rope ladder:
Balsa wood (small flat piece)
Small piece of square dowel
Wood glue
Thread
Ruler
Cutting mat
Scalpel
Sandpaper
Clamp

For the tyre swing:
Plastic ring
Sandpaper
Thread
Jewelry crimps
And pliers

Step 1: Wire Tree

Cut 42 pieces of wire (all pieces to be 7cm long)

Put all the pieces in a bunch, wrap masking tape around one end as shown.

Step 2:

Secure the bunch of wires into the drill (masking tape end).

Clamp the other end on to your work bench.

Slowly twist the wire using the drill.

Step 3:

Remove wire bundle from drill and clamp and remove masking tape.
Select the shorter end to be the roots. Using the pliers fan out the roots to create a stable base.
Then using the pliers shape the roots as shown.

Step 4:

Using the pliers fan out the wires at the other end to form branches if you are showcasing the treehouse then leave a small gap for the rope ladder.

Step 5: Tire Swing.

Sand the plastic ring so it is smooth. Then loop the thread through the ring then tie it securely.
Take the jewelry crimp and feed the other end of the thread through the hole of the crimp, then selecting which wire strand will be the branch the swing hangs from, also thread this wire through the crimp hole then squeeze the crimp closed tightly with the pliers. Trim off any excess thread.

Step 6: Treehouse and Rope Ladder.

Using your flat piece of balsa wood, cut four pieces one 1cm by 1 cm.
Then stack and glue all four pieces on top of each other. Clamp until dry.
Once dry using the scalpel cut the roof angle into your balsa wood stack.
Sand the treehouse.

Step 7: Rope Ladder

Put the piece of square dowel in the drill then slowly rotate the drill with the sandpaper pinched beneath as showing This is to make the squared dowel round. Then cut 10 or 11 or 12 pieces of the dowel 5mm long. These will form the rungs of the rope ladder.

Evenly space the rungs to the length of ladder to suit your tree and hold in clamp.

Lie a piece of thread along all the ends of the rungs and then place a drop of glue on each rung to hold the thread in place. Wait until dray and then repeat on the other side of the rungs. Ensure there is spare thread at each end.

When dry glue to the back side of the treehouse. Trim off any excess threads.

Locate and glue treehouse and rope ladder into your tree.
